OUGD503 - Studio Brief 01 - Penguin Feedback and Final Print

Before developing a final design the concepts were pitched to a feedback group. It was agreed that the tree design wasn't very balanced and looked unnatural, whereas the picket fence concept worked as it was balanced and looked more appealing. The group particularly liked that the fence run all round the book.

They all agreed that the use of foil was engaging and would create an original design that the Penguin publishers may not receive from many entries.

The final design had to be exposed onto a screen to be screen printed as the printers in the college are not able to print white ink onto black and there is no foiling machine. To foil the design, it had to be printed on with a glue, before the foil is placed over it and heated in a heat press. Once the foil has cooled, it is peeled away to reveal the foiled design. This was my first attempt at foiling and it didn't go according to plan. I was unable to mock it up and photograph it to send it to Penguin for my submission, because of this I just sent the digital file.
