The issue here that can be addressed by practical work, is the lack of education and engagement of politics amongst the young, particularly the demographic of 18-24. In 2001-12, it was found in a survey on 40,000 households, the youngest of the group, aged 16-24, 41% said they had no interest in politics. The younger electorate are becoming increasingly disengaged with politics and it may be the case that it is the lack of education on this topic that is causing this.
It will be important to use the practical body of work to address this problem. Because of how close secondary and further education students are to being able to vote, because they are aged 16-18, it will be appropriate to engage with this demographic to promote politics.
There are several ways that the practical work can work to encourage this audience to get more involved. A few first concepts have been brainstormed:
An education campaign to promote a form of political education in colleges and sixth form.
A user interface that will engage with 16-18 year olds educating them on current affairs.
A general government campaign to encourage 18-24 year olds to vote.
To inform a design and inform which direction to take the practical work, each idea will be researched into further visually and conceptually in order to create a successful product.
