OUGD603 - Brief 05 - Evaluation

The first competition brief I took part in, I decided to cater for the company holding the competition, as well as think outside the box, in the hopes that this would grab their attention and be a successful entry. During the development, I pushed for the most professional finish possible, using high quality print finishes and establishing a quality product. The production and development were appropriate for packaging production, using primary packaging research to influence decisions as well as taking on a lot of feedback, treating it like a primary audience feedback focus group.

The concept for this chocolate packaging is a strong one, after much refining. It suits the current food market massively and will be successful in promoting a non-dairy lifestyle. It is relevant to current trends in dietary lifestyles. The actual product pushes the boundaries of the brief set, but still keeping to branding guidelines. This achieves a product that will stand out from other entries and make me come across as a confident designer.
The end result is a combination of high quality finishes, however, the packaging was not commercially produced so it was not at the highest standard I would of liked. The foil finish communicates a high quality and by using the materials of the packaging, to inform the design creates the organic nature. When photographed, it is presented on a black background, an appropriate colour for luxury chocolate, one that many felt communicated a luxury product.

I enjoyed working inside the brief constraints for the first time, I found it rewarding instead of frustrating. I used the brand guidelines to my advantage and found ways to work around the rules. The first production and print were unsuccessful, as it was very last minute and rushed, however, it was reprinted to a higher standard. The foil finish was not at the highest quality I wanted so I will have to look for more effective ways to foil when not using a professional printer. This brief proved that working inside a brief can be rewarding and I am very pleased with the final concept and product, it demonstrates successful idea generation.
