OUGD603 - Brief 05 - Development

From the initial ideas, two styles of illustration were developed using the nut base the chocolates are made from. They are coloured appropriately with the colour of their respective nut. The use of illustration is popular in quality chocolate.

Using the brand guidelines given by the Grown Up Chocolate Company, a typographic heavy design was created with a variety of chocolate names. The typography uses the brand's typeface and are coloured with colours that signify its flavours. The chocolates name will be foiled to communicate its luxury quality. The design is stripped back and minimal to demonstrate its free-from nature.

The third style that was developed merges the illustration and typography together. Again using colours that signify its nut base and the typeface provided in the brand guidelines.

To determine the most effective design feedback was given on each concept.

Many preferred the typographic approach as it suited the brand and the illustrations don't stand out enough. They aren't as bold and this style is often overused. It is important to avoid the chocolate looking to similar to Original Source shower gel, which can be avoided using a textured stock. Many people felt not focusing on it being a free-from product is successful as it informs people its possible to find luxury dairy products.

There were a variety of stock choices that could be used and they were also pitched to the group. They all felt that the most textured stock is more appealing and it works effectively with the foil. Because of its flecks of texture and natural colour it suits the brand most appropriately.
