OUGD405 - Studio Brief 02 - Crit

This crit was extremely useful and I learned a lot more ways of making a successful leaflet design. Initially my group said my first idea wouldn't be completely legible, which is true. However they liked the idea of having a map and recommended that I have a bike that can be popped out of the card and can be "ridden" around the map leaflet. Different sections of the map could be at different visibility and the reader could have to shine a light on different sections to see it to make it more interactive.

Another thought that came up in my crit session was to make the actual leaflet musical. Much like birthday cards that sing when they open, I could make my leaflet sing the original song when its opened.

My group also gave me lots of interesting ways to get children involved more with being more visible when cycling, as often children think it "un-cool" to be seen in a high visibility jacket. This could be done by including within the leaflet, high visibility stickers you can stick on your bike or other similar accessories that can be attached to your bike.

They also recommended I look more into products aimed at children so I can understand what will attract them. They recommended I include a catchy slogan so that they can remember it when going for a bike ride. This understanding of my target audience is important when thinking about the delivery style of my information.

It was also drawn to my attention that a flyer will be more successful if it was posted within an envelope. Often, as these flyers will be addressed to adults, they will be quickly thrown away due to its connotation with "junk mail". However if its sent within an envelope it looks more official.

These are all elements I will take into consideration when planning my final idea before producing it. I will have to think about how to address my target audience; children, but also address the adult audience as it will be addressed and posted to them.
