OUGD405 - Study Task 03 - Public Information Video Research
For this task I had to research a public information video. The video I chose to research is the pedal safety song that encourages people both young and old to make themselves seen by using high visibility clothing and bright colours.
Initially this video is very clear at what the message is. It uses a musical limerick to show how to make yourself seen more clearly by wearing bright clothes and high visibility jackets. It even recommends using high visibility tape on your bike or painting your bike a bright colour. The video is effective in using visual image to demonstrate what will make you safe as it doesn't specifically say what would work well, it shows examples of people on bikes in high visibility clothing. Doing this will keep you safe on the road and be seen by oncoming vehicles that could otherwise cause an acident if you weren't visible enough.
The tone of voice in this video is rather comical. Its a music video and the song itself is quite cheesy and makes you laugh. But this is the reason that it works so well for me, because its the video that I remember most and the tune has been stuck in my head for a week.
I think the target audience is for all ages as a wide age range are seen in the video and it feels most neutral in style of address.
This is the public information video that I want to turn into a small publication and I think it will challenge me to think of an innovative way to address all age ranges and make it engaging as well as memorable so people will listen and take more care on the roads.
