In this task I had to type set 'The Mouse's Tail'. To begin with I looked into concrete poems and the different ways poems can be displayed by forming shapes with the type. Concrete poetry is a form of postmodernism and can be seen in many examples of literature, including 'The Mouse's Tail'.
In this task I had to create a modernist style and a postmodernist style of displaying this poem.
Firstly I designed the poem in a modernist style. I kept it clean and ordered and used one basic shape to illustrate a mouse's tail. This conforms to the modernist style by staying clean, using simple a type face and avoiding rivers, widows and orphans.
The second is following a postmodernist style and is much more expressive. It breaks the rule of keeping the design order and alignment and instead becomes more illegible and follows a style of concrete poetry.
