OUGD406 - Studio Brief 01 - Crit Group

I presented 30 thumbnail designs I had sketched for three of the Secret 7 Songs, to a feedback group. The first fifteen ideas were created before listening to the songs, as this technique would allow me to create a design that was obvious, but still not so obvious it would give the track away. I took literal meanings of the track name and illustrated a variety of ideas. For the next set of fifteen, I listened to the songs and watched the music videos and decided to use elements from lyrics and the video to create ideas, which created a different style of ambiguous meaning.

I plan to use a combination of photography and illustration in my designs. After experimenting in the study task, I find this style of design more engaging. Not listening to the track allowed me to create ideas that were obvious but did not hold the meaning of the song which is a good strategy as this will make the design more ambiguous and a mystery. Listening to the tracks meant i could create incredibly ambiguous designs and really experiment with a variety of ideas.

Of the designs, my crit group selected a few ideas that they liked and gave me ideas to develop them further. These ideas included a variety of photographical and illustrative designs.
