To keep my designs simple for screen printing I decided to use two colours. The patterns I kept black which brings the tow designs together. The red and blue are national New Zealand colours and work well with the black patterns I have used from my experiments with the spirograph. I have associated each colour with the 5 and 10 dollar note.
Despite my designs being minimal, printing them with a screen proved quite a tricky task. The complex patterns achieved from my spirograph meant lining the designs up was a challenging task as I had to do it by eye. I also had difficulty because one of the screen printing beds wouldn't hold my screen still, which prevented me from lining the design up perfectly.
Printing onto acetate is the same process as printing onto paper and use the same paint, however, when the paint dries, the colour seems to fade a little and the paint rubs off slightly. If I was to do the print again I would look into a method of preventing this, such as using a varnish or overcoat.
This was the first time I had ever screen printed and found the process relatively simple. With a little help from peers at the start, I developed my own skills and now feel confident in using this as a print method.
