OUGD406 - Studio Brief 04 - Ideas and Feedback

Because I want to communicate how important it is to make friends with everyone in the studio and keep your connections open throughout the year, I thought about producing a poster in the format and layout of a social media page. This format would exercise my editorial skills and would create an engaging design. There will be plenty of space for information and I would easily be able to include a photo. This idea will allow me to create a feed of one liners that could include anything from advice, comments to make that will start conversations or ideas for events to go to.

My second idea involved producing a pack of cards that hold conversation starters. It is often difficult to start a conversation with someone you don't know and these cards would be engaging and a good laugh. Using a similar format to revision cards or cue cards. The viewer can just flick through them and use them to start conversations. I will include some funny starters and starters that involve a little bit of graphic design jargon.

All of these ideas are relatable and engaging for the generation of the target audience. I intend to use humour to make my work more interesting and combined with an intriguing design, I hope that the product will be a success. I want to produce a design that is quite vibrant and digital. For the last few projects I have focussed heavily on traditional print and drawing methods. Although my work has strived through these processes I would like to explore my digital skills further. 

Many people liked my ideas and thought that the target audience would engage with a design like this. Many people commented that I should consider different print methods when thinking about the production. They recognised the difficulty of screen printing if I wanted to include a full colour photo, however some people recommended using a combination of digital print and screen printing to solve this issue.

Most people actually preferred the card idea to the social media idea which surprised me. I thought my social media idea would have been more successful, but lots of people thought this idea would be more interesting and engage with the first years more. They liked the idea of having simple cards with a funny quote on.
