OUGD504 - Studio Brief 01 - Printing

To determine if the choice of layout and choice of stock is appropriate for the publication, a test print with each stock was carried out. Although it is not clear in the images bellow, none of these stock choices are appropriate for the publication. The ink shows through due to all three having quite low GSM, which will make it difficult to print double sided. They also are too dark in colour, affecting the image quality. It will be more appropriate to use a stock that is closer to white than an off-white.

A couple of them are too textured making the over all effect chaotic. There is too much going on with image, text and a textured page and it distracts from the content. It will be more appropriate to use a smooth, more white stock.

The publication will be printed on an inkjet printer, as it has the ability to print double sided. In industry this book can be printed using an inkjet, or an offset printer. More commonly the proof print is printed using an inkjet, before it is finally printed using an offset. Unfortunately, due to resources, the inkjet printer will have to be used. If this publication was to be printed commercially it would then go through the offset.
