As the publication will be printed commercially, it will be appropriate to use a bind that is similar to a commercial bind. After looking into physical examples, the most suitable is a multi section bind reinforced with glue. A perfect bind wouldn't allow the book to be opened flat to view the full bleed image so this choice of bind won't be successful.
Multi section binding is similar to the Smyth Sewing bind, which in industry, is done by machine. The Smyth stitch is a very complex stitch which won't be successful when done by hand, where as the multi section bind will. After a Smyth stitch is completed, it is glued down the spine before placed in the cover. This stitch was designed to allow the reader to open the book flat.
This method of binding will be the most appropriate for the publication, allowing the reader to open it flat and view the full bleed images.
When under critical analysis, the use of coffee in the glue was recommended to give the book a coffee scent when opened, however, experimentation with this proved that the use of PVA glue masked the smell of the coffee preventing it from carrying the scent.
