OUGD503 - Studio Brief 01 - Animation Style and Humour

A minute in length, Morph is a simple human character made from brown clay, his companion, Chas, is made from white plasticine. The characters share no dialogue, just a series of noises and grunts, the comedy is mainly in the animation and events that take place. Typically Chas tries to catch Morph out but it goes horribly wrong. The humour is in Chas' failed attempts to prank Morph. This style of humour is more aimed at a younger audience than Dave's 25-34 range.

Creature Comforts is a mocumentary where a series of animals are interviewed about certain subjects. It uses sarcastic comedy and links stereotypes of animals with stereotypes off different British regional and social personalities as well as national stereotyping. It plays on a variety of different animals in their situations.

Robot Chicken's humour is quite simply just random. With adult themes and moderate amount of adult language, the characters on robot chicken are put through a series of random sketches. This humour is targeted at a similar target audience as Dave's, male 25-34, however, this humour is not as appropriate for anytime before the watershed and so this would need to be taken into consideration.

Pes' animation style is endearing. The finished effect looks like a miniature model and is aesthetically pleasing to the viewer. Although it is not comical in a sense, it is enjoyable to watch and would attract an audience. Weather or not this audience is appropriate for Dave will depend on whether or not humour is involved.
