To begin with, claymation models of celebrities had to be produced for the claymation. It was decided to make Paul Merton and Ian Hislop from Have I Got News For You viewing their own show. To make a claymation model, first a skeleton has to be made from wire, styrofoam and milliput. The skeletons were made to represent Paul and Ian's body shapes. The milliput helps to fuse the joints together and create solid body parts such as the chest, groin and arms. It helps to create bending points. After applying it sets rock solid. The wire is wrapped from three strands to reinforce the wire and make it stronger.
After creating the skeleton, it is covered in plasticine. Ian has quite round features and so his face was created to emphasise that. He is often wearing a suit so using navy plasticine, a suit was made for his body. Paul is known for wearing flowery shirts so for him, a combination of colours were marbled to create his shirt. The two have ageing her so grey and black was marbled to create their hair.
After they were produced, a chair was made from styrofoam and covered in brown paper. Using a similar technique, a television was made out of card before being covered in black plasticine.
