OUGD505 - Studio Brief 01 - Public Spaces

This brief involves traditionally printing a poster, celebrating events that have taken across Leeds. There are many events that have taken part in Leeds and may that have interested me. I have found three events that I think would produce interesting print approaches and events that interest me in general. The poster must be produced using one or more traditional print methods and celebrate an event that has already taken place.

The opening of the Hyde Park Picture House is an event of interest to me, that took place in 1914 shortly after the start of the First World War. Film is a massive industry that I am interested in and the reason I am keen to look into producing a poster for this event. I would ensure that the poster is printing using appropriate print methods and design decisions. This poster would give me the opportunity to explore print methods and graphic design styles from the Edwardian era and expand my knowledge.

Forward to Freedom: The history of the British Anti-Apartheid Movement, 1959-1994, is an exhibition for Black History Month 2016. It remembered the Anti-Apartheid Activism in Leeds. This is a topic that is of interest to me and something important to promote, I would be interested in working on a poster for this event. I would laos have the opportunity to explore a variety of design techniques from 1959-1994 and expand my knowledge even more on this.

The opening of the Leeds steam tramway in 1882 is another event that interests me as it would give the opportunity to explore print methods and design styles from the Victorian era. Really where graphic design became an occupation, with the industrial revolution. It is, I think, important to understand the origins of design and I will have the opportunity to explore their methods of printing.

Of all these posters it will be important to approach the design with appropriate design decisions based on the date they took place.
