For the majority of my other modules, I have been
looking into traditional print methods, so wanted to go down
a different route and experiment with my digital skills. I feel that my
digital skills aren't my strongest and I would like to grow them. This
module was all about communicating a personal experience of my first year
at university, and what advice I would give to the next years first years. For
me, making friends was a huge part of university and I found that I had made
friends with the wrong people and didn't spend time getting to know everyone on
my course. After becoming friendly with everyone, I found the course a lot more
enjoyable. In order to communicate the importance of this I have produced
conversation starters in a pack of cards.
I left this project very last minute and put
it upon myself to produce this work in a day, however, I feel that this
work is at a very high standard and I am actually very impressed with what I
have produced in such a short amount of time. For me, this shows
professionalism, being able to produce work in a very short amount of time. I
did make it to crit sessions on time with ideas that helped me develop my
work further, but because I left it so last minute, I had to receive
feedback in my own time and work with my peers. Working collaboratively is
what made this work so successful in such a short amount of time and I
will take advantage of this in the future.
This project is focusing on my own experience of
the first year and uses comedy and design to engage the target audience. My
idea was simple and it didn't take much research to produce, however it took
quite a bit of development and collaboration with my peers and it uses
language that the target audience will relate to. I am proud of this work
and really happy with the end result. I think I have constructed it to a very
high standard. I am really pleased with the skills I have learned over this year
which have helped me to produce this work. I feel I am really confident
now with using the print room, knowing what stock to use, formatting my work
for print, and manually constructing work as a final product and photographing
it professionally. I feel that these skills have been incredibly strengthened
over the year and will benefit me in my second year greatly.
I really enjoyed this brief and enjoyed having fun
with it. It was a real laugh to think of all the quotes to use on the cards.
Honestly, I wouldn't change my design in anyway, but if I were to do the
project again I wouldn't leave it so last minute as it felt a little rushed.
Saying that, I have learned for next time to treat every project equally and
not leave everything so last minute like I have this year. I have learned that
time management is a huge part of this course and I will spend more time
on this next year.
