OUGD504 - Studio 01 - Cover Design

To make this publication engaging, the cover is blackboard vinyl. This vinyl allows you to draw and write on it using chalk. Many different black stocks were considered, however, the blackboard vinyl was considered more engaging and gives the quality of allowing the reader to draw upon the book. The blackboard vinyl is authentic because it reflects the content and is a visual signifier of the book itself. To create a spine the folding machine will have to be used to prevent the vinyl bubbling.

For a while the use of handwritten type or digitally rendered type was considered on the front cover, however the hand written type looked messy and removed the professional finish and gave it a younger tone of voice which would prevent it being attracted to the target audience. It would also have distracted from the content. The cover was screen printed onto the vinyl as the end result is not too different from the same effect left by chalk, relating to its content.
