OUGD504 - Studio Brief 01 - Final Crit

Now that the publication was finished it went through a critique session. After many people felt that the use of sans serif unsuited the book, the change to the Butler serif typeface is successful and looks  more real as opposed to a sans serif type which purpose is for digital interface.

The choice to leave the back cover blank was a bold one and not clear if this choice would be successful however many people felt it worked and the blank back cover implies the idea that it is used for practice. A few people disagreed with the use of type on the cover and felt that hand rendered type would have been more appropriate and that the choice of type makes it lose it's charm. One person recommended using a chalk stencil to get the chalk effect may have been more successful. Although a couple felt that the use of the type on the cover combined all of the content together and would distract from the images inside which displays the only use of hand rendered type.

In terms of layout, people felt that the copy was too close to the bind and that a larger margin and guttering would have prevented this.

Many people agreed with the distribution style and felt that the target audience would find it and that it suits the target audience appeal.

Overall people were impressed and felt that it was definitely a functional publication that would be successful when printed commercially.
