The publication demonstrates examples of typeface style on each letter so it must be clear what letter the publication is talking about. Three examples illustrate this, using the threshold effect and Photoshop and turning the letter into a silhouette. The use of shadows makes the letter sit above the image without it bleeding into the background.
To capture the essence of chalk, the textures have been kept using the threshold effect which is more appropriate for the publication.
There are a number of Belgian type foundries who's typefaces are suitable for the publication including OurType and Kustomtype. However, the most suitable serif typefaces are a large expense which exceeds the budget. Luckily, a Belgian designer's serif typeface design was sourced and was free to use and it suited the publication successfully.
