OUGD504 - Studio Brief 01 - Distribution

To promote this publication, it will be targeted at coffee lovers, this being the target audience. There are many platforms that will be used to promote the publication that will successfully bring sales to the book.

Drift magazine is a coffee orientated magazine that focusses on coffee, the people that drink it and the cities they come from. It is the perfect medium to advertise this book in. The book will be potentially included in the magazine as an article or simply an advertisement. This will give it exposure to those who drink coffee and coffee owners as well as those who enjoy to own physical publications. Each issue of drift focusses on a different city from around the globe, so would feature in a UK city edition. Being American, this exposure will bring an american audience.

Coffee Shop North documents the independent coffee scene in the north of England. Similar to Drift, it explores independent coffee shops and and looks into detail into coffee roasters. It features essays from it's contributors which is appropriate for this book and an article focussing on it will suit.

Barista Exchange is an online community that allows anyone to post in forums and have general discussion relating to coffee. Although you cannot post advertising, this website has advertising space which will reach the target audience. This website would however generate word of mouth through its forums. Word of mouth is a successful way of promoting a product and will definitely promote the book on an international level.

This book is aimed at a niche audience and will have to be sold in stores that orientate around the niche market. The Village book store in Leeds offers a wide range of art, photography, fashion and design books. As well as this they offer self published books and small press zines, making this store suitable for the book to be sold in.

Similar to Village, is Colours May Vary. This store is another independent store who sell exclusive items that have been produced within the UK with high quality materials by independent makers. They source their products locally and internationally from a variety of established and up-and-coming producers. Within their collection are a range of books that this book will fit into.

There are many other sellers that this book will suit including gallery bookshops which will offer a variety of design orientated books which will reach out to a secondary audience, those who are simply interested in typography, Urban Outfitters, which holds a collection of niche and quirky books and Fred Aldous, which holds a large variety of arts and craft material and books. All of these sellers will attract the audience this book is intended for.
