Ticketmaster
On a website interface, Ticketmaster provides the availability of tickets from a variety of events including music, sports, arts, theatre, comedy and family attractions which is refreshing when the user is looking for a variety of events. The categories cover a wide range of events giving numerous option and are organised in categories which makes using the website quick and easily.
Overall the website itself takes a while to load which is always dissatisfaction for the user, however when searching for specific events it remembers information such as your region which is a convenient feature for the user making finding events a lot quicker and effortlessly.
When making a purchase of tickets, the tickets aren't always available from Ticketmaster, redirecting the user to a partner site. This action takes a while to complete and having to purchase tickets on a second site can be annoying as the user can find signing up to a handful of different ticket providing sites stressful and confusing.
The app interface is very simple, using the location to advertise events suited to the user, however there is no option of choosing any other location so if the user wanted to see recommended events from a variety of areas or outside their local town, this wouldn't happen and they would have to search for them.
The home page offers a search option, as well as providing popular choices, nearby choices, choices of events happening at the weekend which is a more human touch to a user as often they will take part in events at the weekend, and all upcoming events. There are clear images making it clear what the event is and who is performing. This style of design makes the application engaging and will encourage the use of the app. It is neat ordered preventing any uncomfortable use. If the design was less engaging and more busy, the usage of the app would be unsuccessful.
The nearby sections displays events on a map which is a useful feature when the user would want to find events that are near to them and looking for a convenient night out. The 'for you' section adds favourite events in order to give the user recommendations, and the artists and venues section shows events in categories of who is performing and where the event will be taking place, to recommend tickets for the user. The interface shows an order history which some users could find to be pointless, however it can be a useful feature to keep on top of finance or if they forget where they've been.
Overall the application is quite complicated, theres lots of menus and options and its easy get lost within the program. However, that said, there is a real variety of tickets it's not just for club nights and they are all easily available.
Resident Advisor
In website format, Resident advisor has a simple drop down menu where all the options are laid out clearly. It gives the option to view tickets by city or a-z, which is quick and easy to navigate, making the experience quick and hassle free.
To find tickets it only gives the user an option to choose by club instead of individual events in alphabetical or date order. Some users may never look for events by club which is annoying and can lead to frustration. There is also a top clubs feature on the right which is visible while the events being viewed are still visible. This could be seen as a useful feature, or could be distracting when the user simply wants to buy a ticket.
The club information displays upcoming events in order and is clear to see. It also shows how many are attending which could be seen as a positive feature as a user will not want to go to an event that is unpopular or if it is way too busy. However this can be seen as having a negative effect, affecting the users choice of making a purchase.
The application format uses location and shows popular choices, new events, 'for you' and all events. It gives you the option to sign in for the feature of being shown favourite events based on previous searches and purchases. Like the website format, it shows how many people are attending the event. It also shows an artist category, club location category and a search option, these are all colour coded to differentiate the different options which is a positive feature and prevents confusion when the user is navigating through the different sections of the app.
The purchase of a ticket is simple and the user follows an easy layout. The option to connect to apple pay is also provided making payments quick and smooth. The event details are clear and easy to read through but when buying tickets it asks the user to log in or register to pay using their account or to link the app to their apple pay.
Skiddle
In a website interface, straight away, a search option is provided making it quick and to the point. The exploring option is quite personal allowing the user to find events that are more suited to them. The exploring option by city and genre is well events filter, clear layout in order of date and shows all events not divided into categories.
Not only does Skiddle offer priced tickets it displays free events too. When searching through the events listed, the event highlights when a mouse is held over it, and information such as location, date time, age restriction and ticket price is displayed. This makes ticket browsing quick and effortless allowing the user to view key information without having to enter a new page to view it.
In app form, straight away it asks for location before taking the user through a step by step process of creating an account. This supportive step by step process is convenient for the user removing any stress caused by the use of the application.
The homepage is stressful and confusing with the use of too many fonts that bleed into their background images. However, the tile background could be successfully executed as it is a simple and gently functioning design. There is a real variety of events including gigs, trending, comedy and free events. The menu is simple, but, the icon is on the wrong side of the phone. With larger phones the user would have to stretch their thumb out making the process of entering the menu uncomfortable.
A useful and personal feature is being allowed to sync the users artists from Apple Music with the app, as well as allowing the user to track specific event brands. This makes the experience far more personal and is much more convenient for the user than having to manual input this information. The app also gives the user alerts to certain events which will come through notifications on their device. This feature adds more convenience to the us of the application making the app almost effortless to use.
The loading symbol uses the Skiddle logo which is an engaging touch that takes it away from the generic frustrating loading screens.
Dice
In a web format, Dice gives the user no other choice than than searching for specific events. There is no other information about tickets on the home page, forcing the user to travel through several links to find the information they are looking for making it frustrating and wasting the users time. Only allowing a search page is limiting a variety of ways of finding tickets which will prevent a wide diverse range of tickets being available for the user.
When a search is made the options are made out in thumbnails which are spread across the page orderly but in different sizes which is going to influence the user and can be frustrating as it fills the page preventing more information being displayed. The events are however all in date order and the information is clear.
When the user wants to make a purchase of a ticket the user has to download the application, making this webpage completely obsolete and making the entire journey of searching for events pointlessly frustrating as the user cannot jump straight to the event they have just searched for on this app.
In the application, the Dice app start up guide asks the user to enable location. The home screen displays events based on the location of the user. It holds an automated side scrolling marquee at the top of the page which is followed by a list of artists that are playing at events near the user in date order. This style of organising material is engaging and clearly laid out displaying vital information making the user's experience easier.
The symbols in the bottom navigation bar are unclear and the top two menu buttons for the search and help options, lay over the content creating an overall harsh experience. The spacing between each image makes the images bleed into one another making it uncomfortable for the eyes. The button at the centre of the navigation bar makes absolutely no sense and is trying too hard to be edgy and trendy.
When an event is chosen, it's information is very clear and simple to understand. Related events are displayed at the bottom of the information and it even allows the user to preview and example of the artists music. This app is the only of all the platforms to allow apple pay as well which in this day and age is a simple and fast way of paying which many people prefer.
